Ever wonder what bits NRHA Professionals prefer? We do! That’s why we caught up with NRHA Professional Matt Palmer during the Tulsa Reining Classic, and asked, “If you could only keep two bits in your tack room, which ones would they be?”
Palmer, of Campbell Hall, New York, said he’d probably choose a snaffle and an aluminum, broken leverage bridle. “With the snaffle, I think you get a lot done. You can get them pretty soft in it,” Palmer explained.
He added that he chose the aluminum bit because the horses tend to like it. “I like it because it doesn’t scare them, but there’s enough there that you can get something done even on a heavier horse,” he said.
Matt Palmer is a multiple-time Top 20 NRHA Professional, and multiple-time Level 4 Open major event finalist, including qualifying for The Run For A Million 2022. He specializes in futurity and derby horses, two-year-olds, and non pros within the discipline of reining.
Matt believes in training and showing methods that promote the longevity of his horses’ careers, and always putting the welfare of the horse first. Currently, he runs his program out of Santa Hill Ranch in Campbell Hall, New York.
